Hypertrichosis can occur in either localised or diffused form. The condition may be congenital or acquired at any time. Hirsutism which is a kind of hypertrichosis occurs in women and refers to excess body hair (androgenic hair) following the male pattern. Dermatologists evaluate the causes of hair growth by conducting blood tests that identify the precise origin of the irregular hair growth, and advice a treatment.

In focal alopecia hair loss or bald spots occur in some areas of the scalp – whereas in diffused alopecia hair loss happens throughout the scalp. Prior to starting treatment, our dermatologists evaluate the condition to know whether there is a scarring or non-scarring. In alopecia, damage is caused to hair follicles due to scarring (inflammation within the scalp). In non-scarring type of alopecia, as the hair follicles still exists, treatment is offered to the patients for re-growth of lost hair. In scarring type of alopecia treatment is provided to prevent further hair loss.
Paediatric Dermatology
