Spreading Awareness on Paediatric Bone & Joint Health at KIMS-SUNSHINE Hospitals World Paediatric Bone and Joint Day
On the October 19th we commemorated World Paediatric Bone and Joint Day with a special awareness program designed to educate parents and caregivers about common paediatric bone and joint issues. The program focused on key areas such as Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH), Rickets, and Preventable Home Injuries in Kids. Under the expert guidance of our renowned Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr. Vidyasagar Chandankere, the importance of early recognition and prevention in ensuring children’s bone health was emphasised.
One of the primary concerns that were highlighted during the program was the common asymptomatic vitamin D deficiency in children. This deficiency can significantly hinder growth and weaken muscles. To prevent this, Dr. Vidyasagar Chandankere recommends parents to encourage kids to get regular sunlight exposure and a balanced diet rich in calcium and vitamin D. He also conveyed that “Awareness and early intervention are key to ensuring the well-being of our children’s skeletal health.”
At KIMS-SUNSHINE Hospital we value safety of children and on this occasion of Paediatric Bone and Joint Day our doctors also shared lifestyle tips to prevent injuries and promote children’s bone health. These include creating secure home environments, limiting screen time, encouraging daily outdoor physical activities for atleast one hour, and ensuring a balanced diet with adequate calcium and vitamin D.
We are committed to providing expert care and education to children and their families. By addressing common bone and joint issues and promoting preventive measures we aim to empower parents and caregivers to make informed decisions about their children’s health.
